The most common location of an etopic gland would be the thymus. If you find four normal appearing glands with an elevated perthyroid oron, you could on hyper secreting, supernumerary parathyrid gland which is most commonly located in the thymis. Most people have four glands, but you might have less, you might have more. And you might find four normal ones, and your abnormle ones still out there somewhere.
