The Diversity of Sleep in Animals

Paleontology is all about finding little scrappy things to try to figure out what the heck it came from. And so mine was purely modern material with hopes that it would help fossil studies down the line. We did have a moment when we talked about lack of sleep in parents because a whales, whether they give birth, both the orcas and dolphins. They just don't sleep for that first period right after birth. Both of them adjust back to normal amounts of sleep shortly after. It's a very unusual feature among mammals.
