Afrofuturism, the Myth of Black People

The term Afrofuturism first appeared in a publication by white cultural critic Mark Derry, which bears the clever title, Black to the Future. There is painting, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and there are novels by authors like Samuel R. Delaney and Octavia E. Butler. As that last point suggests, Afrof Futurist works may be futuristic, but they are also deeply concerned with past struggles and trauma.
