Jesus Is Taking on the Causes of Disease Sin

Matthew's suggestion is because he's taking upon himself their afflictions. Ultimately the suffering servant not only bears the illnesses and diseases of Israel but the sins of Israel. And so this idea of Isaiah shows a suffering servant who will bear the illnesses and the disease. But it's going to point us in that direction that we'll see at the end of the story.
