The History of Assyria

This book is a great place to start if you're interested in Assyria. What's interesting is that around 600 BC, these empires switched to writing on leather and papyrus. Those things do not have the shelf life of clay tablets. And so we actually, in some instances, know more of what happened in ancient times than in more recent times of history because of the way that the information was recorded with cuneiform.
