The Tumor Microbiome in Melanoma

Bacteria that colonize and live within human tumors are found in tumors from patients. Different strains of bacteria seem to correlate with different types of tumors. There's this whole movement now to understand the role of the microbiome in immuno oncology. Certain microbiota can affect the metabolism of drugs and make them more or less effective for chemo therapies or immune checkpoints. But also the microbiome seems to prime and different compositions can be either good or bad to prime the immune response against tumors.
