The Legacy of the Revolution
The Constitution is sort of the second act in which it's an attempt to form a more perfect union. And that process is inherently going to be filled with mistake after mistake after mistake. But they're trying not to go back towards the monarchy and have a full authoritarian system. They had zero expectation that what they had crafted would last as long as it did.
