The Importance of My Before Vowels
Shakespeare used both my and mine before vowels. By the late 1700s my was the standard form before both vowels and consonants. The phrase is also used more broadly to refer to someone who collaborates with or forms an alliance with an evil person or regime. It's sometimes referred to today as a Faustian bargain.
