The Ending of a Dream

In a dream, when you're dreaming, the darkness and the light in your dreams exist on a level with one another. He sees through the gate are his own eyes looking back at him. So is he entering that darkness at the very end? Is that what we're being told? I don't know. It's I don't want to over interpret the story because it works without being interpreted like a dream does. The way to interpret a dream is not through translating it into some other perhaps therapeutic language but simply to tell the story to be close to the story to the atmosphere.
