Is Serotonin Really Associated With Depression and Anxiety?

There's not ultimately been that much evidence that serotonin perhaps might be, say like directly involved with depression. On the other hand, we have these observations that psychotropic medications, which we know do impact dopamine function, nor adrenaline serotonin. Do this tell us maybe that the compounds are working in ways that we don't even imagine they might be working or there's some novel mechanism that we've overlooked?
