Will Hiring Front End Interest Rates Make Bank Lending More Lending Lending Tough?

I've always heard, you know, banks borrow short and they lend long. So they like steep yield curves. But going through a few of the quarterly reports of some banks, I actually found that they care more about where the front end is than how steep it is. And to what you said, the pricing of the loans is very bad. To what degree would potentially hire rates on the front end make lending more lucrative? That remains to be seen.
