The film has a very traditional arc plot set of like those, those checkpoints where we need these moments as the story is unfolding in a traditional cheeseburger Hollywood movie. And here, the Polaroids and the tattoos, in my opinion, are very much like a cheeseburger forward momentum story even though it's giving us the events of how they were created.
