Tramatic Memory

Anthropologist allan young says that what we call p t s d to day i not timeless or uniform. Herodotus says there's a story of a soldier who went blind at the battle, but who was totally uninjured. Does it take a tramatized society to fight one of these battles that would tromatize us to day? I don't know the answer to any of these things, but i find them all fascinating.
