The Importance of Continuity in History

When you're doing history, we spend a lot of time focusing on things that change. But the trick is that the exciting stuff has changed, as you just said. You want to make whatever you're looking at be a motor of change. There's a real compulsion, I think, among historians to do that. And there's also a compulsion among feminists and hence feminist historians to find change for women.
