How to Talk to Patients About Radiation Risk
In our group and our institution, we've been moving into other treatments for DCIS. We do talk to patients about it, but I usually send the patient to the radiation oncologist just to have the discussion. Of course, there are going to be women that have a millimeter of DCIS that are over the age of 70 that are not going to get any benefit from radiation. In those cases, I may make the decision with the patient, not to send them.
