The History of MP3 Players

This episode originally published on February 15, 2017. A team of researchers led by Carl Heinz Brandenburg created the MP3 format back in 1987. An MP3 player is a dedicated, typically portable device that is a decoder and an audio system all in one. It can refer to either - but I'm going to focus more on those handheld devices.
