The Relationship Between the Pacific Decadal Oscillation and the Greenland
The Pacific Decadal Oscillation influences things like precipitation, temperature and cloud cover in the Chihuahuan Desert. And for much of the historical record it seems grasslands boomed when the oscillation was in its warm phase and collapsed during its cool phase. But then this relationship has changed more recently is that right? Yes. Since the late 1970s grassland cover has remained persistently lower than what the researchers would expect based on what was happening in the Pacific. It could be due to human cause warming or possibly due to the success of invading shrubs which are more resilient to drought than grasses.
