Fence Line Weaning
In 2001, without us doing any research because COVID still made it hard on farm, they actually decided to implement fence line weaning that we had used in our preconditioning. The calves were very calm, but also the moms. Of course, there's dams on the other side of the fence that are bawling because they want to get close to their calf. But the biggest thing that the staff told us was how easy it was to move the dams away. And when they were moved out of sight, they were fine. They were calm and they were not stressed at all.
