When I first started playing with computer-based music where everything's perfectly in tune and perfectly in time, I was really surprised that that didn't sound so good to me. The magic is in the drift and in the slop a little bit. And if those people, James Brown or Prince, for example, were to have just made their beats on the grid, their music would not be great.
