Skiers increased their cross sectional area more than those soccer players did despite the fact that this was quite low intensity or moderate density endurance training rather than heavy resistance training. Capillary density per muscle fiber increased significantly and as I said this is a critical variable for oxygen transport to the muscle cells so that aerobic energy production can take place.
