The Importance of Biblical Idiom in Theology
The way that the biblical authors are speaking is encouraging us to think about God in a particular way. The Doctrine of the Trinity doesn't come from a particular part of the Bible, but from the whole thing taken together. In the Old Testament, you have a dynamism of God. It's the living God, which doesn't just mean he's not dead. We don't know what was in their head? What we can discern is how broad patterns or clear moments of speech about God work.
