The Last Samurai

The Last Samurai is a mashup of the Battle of Hakodate and Sago's Rebellion. Unlike the movie the actual rebellion was fought using western weapons on both sides. The Meiji constitution vested ultimate sovereignty or ultimate control of the country in the emperor, not in the people. For eight years a team of Japanese and foreign legal scholars led by Ito Hirabumi worked to draft Asia's first constitution.
