Surveillance and Discipline
Foucot says the surveillance approach to discipline occurs not only in prisons, but also in other large scale institutions that are pretty similar to prisons. The thing that these institutions share with one another is that they all produce what fuco calls very famously docile bodies. They subject people to incessant observation, to strategies of normalization and to all sorts of examinations where they are prodded and pricked. In these spaces, every detail of human life is subjected to this watching over. It's used as a possible excuse for dishing out pnishment.
