A month after the bodies of Alexander Esau and Valentina Sirianni, Daily News columnist Jimmy Breslin received a handwritten letter from someone who claimed to be the son of Sam. Police then released a psychological profile of their suspect who was described as most probably suffering from an intense form of paranoid schizophrenia. Media outlets consulted scores of psychologists who noted that the killers seemed to gain a great deal of gratification from alluding law enforcement. The author also included the moniker, the wicked king wicker, which further law enforcement's belief that the killer held a fascination with the occult.
