Christoph Molina is one of the main classical interpretability guys. He says it's very easy to get into kind of nonsense gatekeeping because there's both cultural meccan-tub community centered around Chris Ola not that much in academia though summer academia and academic fields of mechanistic interpretability. There's lots of people doing work I would consider mechanisticinterpretability even if they don't engage much with the community or during the other exists for example a friend of mine is Atticus Geiger who've been in some great work and Stanford on causal abstractions.
