"It was, I don't know, at best, culty and weird and at worst violent and abusive," she says. "I'll never stop having people tell that story until the church somehow accounts for what we all had to go through." Her mom told her about some of the stuff that would happen in the temple before they were married. She didn't think everybody looked weird. And there was Rod to pull me through the veil and take me into this lesser room and all of us well.
