The Importance of Infallibility in Church History
At one point, at the end of his life, a person is writing him a letter basically saying, you know, save your soul. And he's basically writing back to explain here's why I can't sacrifice my intellect for the sake of my soul. If I did so in a question, which is for the historical eye, perfectly clear and unambiguous, there would then be no longer for me any such thing as historical truth and certainty. He should then have to suppose that my whole life long, I had been in a world of dizzy illusion.
