All About Agatha Christie

CHAPTER

The Importance of Amateur Productions of Christie's Plays

The popularity of Christie's stage work in the repertory secondary touring and amateur markets inevitably resulted in an association with cut price and substandard productions. The estate have become sensitive to this in recent years and have done their best to reverse the trend by having a licensing policy that prioritizes quality rather than quantity. I think it was the law of diminishing returns because Ag of the Christie plays always sell tickets whatever standard they are so you know a cut price production will sell a lot of tickets Amateur productions always know that when they put Christie into the repertoire they'll always sell, and now I would argue maybe the end of the Christie licensing has been reached.
