He began his project to take samples of c o two, year after year, for the next forty years. It would become known as the keeling curve, a line with a jagged edge showing a steep, relentless rise in the earth's of the greenhouse gas co two. The world could not absorb the exis carbon dioxide that man's activities were producing. Keeling realized that persistence and attention to detail were critical.
