Timothy Stanley: We've been living absolutely dependent on our technology since about 19 60. He says the amount of energy we consume in America is probably three to five times more than is sustainable at our current level of even carbon neutral technology. And as everybody around the world gets rich and fat and wants to eat more meat, that puts ever more demand on the productive capacity of the land, he says.Stanley: The mission of humanity for the rest of the century should be to learn how to live with eight billion people or ten billion people but do so in such a way that we can remain within the carrying capacity of the earth through the end of the century.
