The Spirit of Chaos

I think we have this natural impulse to revert to what has worked in the past. There's several thousand years of these structures working and in the face of chaos, that's the most sensible thing to do. And perhaps that's why the notion of God has been so sticky in the human consciousness. So part of what desacralizes modernity is a desacralization of traditional religion. In other cases, they rediscover the wisdom of old books or traditions.
