The Cost of Open Streets
New York City has lost 63 miles of pedestrian friendly open streets. The city spends $8 million a year to implement the program, which is "a drop in the bucket compared to what we spend on other forms of transportation," he says. He thinks there are struggles around how to create and maintain these streets for everyone.
