Napoleon planned to use the superior speed of the grandar ay to get between the prussian forces and berlin, their capital. From this position, french forces would be able to cut off any potential help from the russians to the east. This main thrust from the south would be accompanied by a diversionary attack from the west led by napoleon's younger brother, louis. It was a very solid plan that played to all the strength of the grand arme. But as france prepared for yet another round of fighting, there were ominous signs as well.
