Local optimization is saying, okay, look around where I'm standing right now. But one step could I take that would get me up as much as possible in that one step? Let me take that one step and then I can repeat that process. Global optimization is like looking at the whole thing on a bird's eye view and trying to figure out where you're getting to. So do you see a connection between those ideas and the forward and backward chaining thing? Yes.
