The Evolution of the Pignose Turtle
Pig nose turtles are Australian, which is another place where it makes total sense that something bizarre would have evolved unlike all the other turtles. If being a flippered freshwater turtle is less common evolutionarily, like if there's something about freshwater habitats that they're not as stable enough compared to the ocean,. It makes sense that an isolated place is where that weird lifestyle would show up. I wonder if there's any thought on are there a freshwater aquatic ecosystems everywhere else that make it harder for pig nose turtles to develop and hang around there.
