Is There a Demand for Philosophy in Literature?

Maximus is supposed to have delivered a course of lectures in Rome in the reign of the Emperor Comatus so around about 190 AD. But beyond that we have very little biographical information. What you have to do is to look at the style of the work and ask who would want this kind of material what the conditions that make it possible in the first place. So I guess at the other extreme we might want to think about these literary figures who are really aristocratic I guess for the most part and are weaving philosophy into the fabric of texts they write.
