Sally Kohn: I was so struck by how many of the calls were not actually about the abuse, but about surviving in everyday life. And i remember thinking, how could it be that people who have work and are working so incredibly hard still can't take care of themselves and their familys? How do we change that? She says she started volunteering at domestic violence shelter when she was a college student. "I just wanted to help these women get back on their feet," said Kohn.
