The Importance of Being Harmless in Spiritual Teaching
There is this widespread stereotype that you better be harsh with your students as a spiritual teacher or you just won't get results. I don't know how much I subscribe to the idea, but we do tend to rest somewhere in the middle though. And our culture through these movies and just through our own experience of people that we know is reinforcing this middle ground. We think tough love is the way to go. That's what we reward but tough love is trying to have it both ways.
