In 85 BC, Sulla won his war in the east against Mithrid deities and came to terms with the rebellious king. But having emerged victorious abroad, it was time to turn back to his domestic political problems. The Consuls chosen for the year 83 BC were both fierce opponents of Sulla. They were also, as it would turn out, no match for him either.
