The Gregorian Revolution
Henry III, heir of Constantine in Charlemagne, appointed a series of reform-minded popes. They were also against something called simony: the buying and selling of church offices. Pope Gregory was pope 1073 to 1085; he worked for those reform- minded popes before that. Catholics believe at this point, Protestants are going to be split on whether or not papal supremacy should continue.
