The Effects of Methyl Transferases on Methionine

In mammals, there are over 150 identified methyl transferases. DNA methylation and all the other dozens of methyl acceptors constitute some bit of this last 10 or 15, maybe 20% of methylation. If you have a genetic polymorphism that decreases your ability to make methyl folate, then you're decreasing the ability to methylate vitamin B12. To get 510-methylene tetrahydrofolate, what MTHFR is making the methyl folate from, we need vitamin B6.
