Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Plutarch, Machiavelli, Russo. All these guys were obsessed with Sparta. And so were political actors in history. There were American and French revolutionaries who were big Sparta fans. The Spartan institutions created a society that was strong and united. A society where every citizen was eager to sacrifice everything they had for the whole.
