I think he's fanboying in that moment, not cheating on a test. I think he was so inspired by the work that he was trying to recreate it. Maybe he is cheating. He's giving him too much, too much leeway, but I just felt like it was more fanboying. The penalty for that stealing of the typewriter is incredibly harsh. But that's the whole film. It's like you plagiarized, you get penalized, you steal this typewriter, you're trying to bring it back. And it all starts from him just taking the fall for somebody else's calendar and his entire life gets derailed.
