Introduction
The Chinese government is back to letting Hollywood movies play in the country after a quasi shadow ban for a few years. The China box office was down about 35% last year compared to pre-pandemic just like the US market, but more importantly, the top grossing movies in China weren't American. A sequel called the battle at Lake Shenzhen 2 grossed more than $600 million there,. far more than the biggest US movies like Avatar 2 and Jurassic World Dominion.
