Is There a Guarantee That Growth Will Happen?
I think we've been really encouraged by the conversations we've been having with business leaders. But there's no guarantee that growth will happen, and certainly not the highest is staying growth in the G7. If the economy had grown under the last 13 years of Conservative government, at the same rate it did under the last Labour government, there'd be today 40 billion pounds to either invest in public services or to cut taxes. I think what sets Labour apart from the Conservatives is that we understand the role that the state can play.
