The History of the International Date Line

calendars around the world were discovered in India, in Central America, in China. The Jesuits thought that they would be proof these people were not saved and needed Christian help. As late as 1953, after Britain left India, Nehru, who was on a special commission to look at the Indian calendar, found that there were 30 calendars in use in 1953 in India. But again, as Christian says, an agricultural, fairly slow moving society.
