Birth Control Pills Can Affect Sexual Desire

The birth control pill works by preventing ovulation, which of course is the thing that allows you to not get pregnant from sex. But when your body is releasing an egg, it's also releasing the sex hormone estrogen. When progesterone is being released, and this is something that isn't necessarily favorable to sexual desire, in fact, research finds that progesterone levels are actually inversely related to women's sexual desire. And then on top of it, when you take these synthetic hormones, because the dosing is imperfect in everybody's bodies, usually what happens is our livers to cope with all of these hormones that we're taking might not be used to start releasing sex hormone binding
