Code First Girls - What Was the First Step?
EF and Cova's Girls were running together as a marketing campaign for 18 months. The original way that we scaled was by going directly on campus. At the end of every EF presentation or every career fair we would do a bit about code first girls. A great guy called Tom Close who was doing his PhD at Oxford created a curriculum to teach it. There were 32 women in that first cohort all of whom came from like non-technical backgrounds. Five of them ended up becoming professional software developers.
