The Challenges of Refuigi

Refuigi was founded by Selena Hales in 2015 to give a warm welcome. Since then, with the help of donations and community support, they've provided over 15,000 personalised welcome packs as well as 25,000 critical support packs. They distribute emergency food and toiletry parcels, hand-written letters from the local community and much more. Today across the UK, 395 hotels are being used to house 51,000 asylum seekers at a cost of over £6 million a day. Ten of these hotels have been set up in Scotland.
