Alex Sharma had to choke back tears when a hard fought commitment to quote, phase out coal was removed from the final conference text. There's so much less urgency to phase down, even though everyone who made that deal last year knew what Joe has just been telling us, that coal must be eliminated to avoid catastrophic warming. The package he refers to there is the overall deal reached in Glasgow, last-minute lobbying led by China and India,. as you say, saw the commitment to phase out coal change to phase down.
